For instance, I am definitely NOT a workaholic -- I wholeheartedly believe in enjoying life -- but my career and sense of what I do for a living is VERY important to me. If I were with someone who was apathetic about this sort of thing, it would be an issue for me.

Imo I think there should be set boundaries out of respect for your BF/GF. The OP is right, going over to hang out one on one at the dudes house is not appropriate, even tho they are long time friends. He said that he would be OK if they went out in public like going for a coffee or having lunch.

I'm in the process of divorce after 25 years of marriage. I met my GF through OLD. I should have met her 30 years ago! She is awesome! I now realize that I "settled" when I married because I was afraid of being alone by my mid 20s. I'm now 54 and life is starting over and I couldn't be happier, except for regrets of what I did 25 years ago.
