Though, I would say if you really wanted to reach out to them, you would have to be into some of those things yourself. If you absolutely can't get into it, then you can't force yourself to like it.

This reminds me of this time I went out with a recently divorced, friend of a friend. As we're leaving the venue, he asks me if I wanna grab a bite, and I said sure. He looks around and asks our group if anyone wants to come and they all give a knowing look and say, "nah, we're good. We're tired." So I find myself on basically a date with this guy. At first I was sort of confused, but when he orders wine and chocolate covered strawberries all doubt is erased. So I make it clear we're friends and what an awesome friend he is. I say I want to pay my half and he says "no, no, I got it, it's what friends do." He gets increasingly drunker, and as I'm contemplating my escape, he puts his hand on my knee and says asks me if I want kids soon and if I'm good with kids. I remove his hand and tell him we are just friends. The guy does the whole "I have enough friends" slur thing and I'm like "Yeah, me too. But this is not date and I am not interested in dating you, sorry. I have to leave now.".
