I don't want to push this off-topic, just suffice to say there are US immigration laws that override this, specifically a ten year financial obligation requirement I've seen some mention of. Seems unfair but I take it purpose is to discourage anything that puts taxpayers on hook for the fiance visa type stuff. Anyway just don't assume you can wash your hands of it financially if they leave you, and warning was conditions under which they might.

I don't think you did anything wrong. He sounds highly insecure. He left you because he was scared you were going to leave him? That makes no sense for someone who is secure and happy with themselves. I would just chalk this one up to experience... and you probably dodged a bullet... goodness knows what he would have put you through after a few more months of this!

Oh, one last thing: I said two dates, but we'd hung out twice before that for almost a full day each. Not a whole lot of time but enough to feel that spark. You're right though, I am clingy (I recognize this and try hard to create space), and that she's super cute doesn't help me with my one-itis. I have put my foot down in the past when I knew how to handle the issues but this one confused me. Whatever. I'll treat this one as practice and start improving my game to get over my clinginess.

For shy guys it is not so straight forward as to say you are to blame. You know many many girls date up when it comes to confidence, popularity, dominance, social proof traits. If shy guys desire an outgoing exuberant girl and get no where, then yes it is their fault. If all they are perfectly happy with is shy, introverted, submissive girlfriend and these are the girls they tentatively approach, and they get zero positive feedback from the girls, well, I am not saying these girls are to blame, but neither is the guy. Unfortunately he has to adapt. Someone here said ‘work harder’. I am sure that’s what bugs some guys, women here don’t get told to work harder to find a guy (except for maybe when it comes to unhappy overweight women).
